Four years ago Changmin made a wish. He wished to be loved back. Some day.

series: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6

Four years ago, while blowing out the candles on his birthday cake, Changmin wished he would someday be loved back. He thought, the whole Yoomin fiasco was a good enough reason for a wish like that.
The next morning he thought that being loved back by someone without loving him (yes, he was already sure it would be a “him”) in the first place could be quite a challenge.
So he started working on falling in love. To be honest, it’s a lot easier when you put your mind to it.

First there was Kwon Jiyong, a boy in his class. This probably happened cause GD (as he liked to call himself) had absolutely nothing in common with his first love (Yoochun that is). Jiyong was bi and everybody knew that. And although it gave Changmin some courage to write that confession letter, he stopped right in the middle, after receiving a text from “the-all-mighty-Seungri” informing his sunbae that Jiyong was in a crazy love-hate relationship with some guy by the name of Choi Seunghyun.
Jiyong was awesome in a bizarre way, behaved like a diva and loved himself a little bit too much. But Changmin was okay with it. Choi Seunghyun too, apparently.
He was digging the one-sided thing for a while, since tragic was the new happy now.
But being all focused on his birthday wish, he couldn’t let himself go on like this.

His decision to fall out of love with Jiyong led to crazy feelings towards Han Geng or Hankyung, his next door neighbor who just came to Korea a few months ago and was trying to make it in the entertainment industry. He was failing then, mainly because his Korean was as far from perfect as it could be. Basicly, after living in this country for over six months, he could only greet somebody, thank somebody, say sorry in the most polite way there was and ask for a discount. Or icecream.
Changmin figured his way in offering his help with most selfless(ish) intentions. He became Hankyung’s tutor.
He was in for a disappointment. Although after three months of intense studying Hankyung’s Korean was much better, Changmin found out his Chinese friend was as straight as Robin Hood’s arrows. He kind of had a theory about friar Tuck and Robin himself, though…
Don’t blame him, he was young and in love. I mean seriously, how could a geek like that not see anything slashy in their story?
So, Hankyung was straight, Chinese and a new trainee at some agency, He started seeing some girl but kept cooking his famous Beijin fried rice for Changmin and hugging him after every single one of the tutoring sessions. This time the younger boy decided he’s going to fall in love with complete strangers, better yet people from Gwangju or Busan or whatever. As far from Seoul as they could be.

So the next time he fell in love, it was with a Japanese guitarist/singer/songwriter Yamamura Ryuta. He was short, adorable, and extremely talented and had the kindest smile in the world.
Three weeks together and Min realized, the boy reminded him of Yoochun a little bit too much. He was going for finding new love, not recreating the first one with some changes. So he stopped answering Ryuta’s calls and going places he could meet his ex at.
A month later he saw Ryuta on TV. He was back in Japan and his new song became an overnight hit. Ryuta was a star now. He said in one interview, the lyrics were about someone he fell in love with too quickly and was dumped without as much as a note goodbye. It was all about getting stronger, getting over, moving on and stuff like that. Changmin sort of liked the song, even more then Ryuta. He was also really happy that something good came out of their relationship.
Anyways, that was his Japanese love. He “returned home” right after, in about two weeks or so.

Donghae was his mother’s friends’ son.
They were friends for a long time already. And they could talk about anything. Forty-eight days Donghae had to spend at Shim’s family house were the happiest days of his live, Changmin thought. They’ve built an alien communication device, watched every single one of Jackie Chan’s movies, broke Changmin’s new Play Station trying to upgrade some old game, made fun of Changmin’s sisters and pulled stupid pranks, including throwing water balloons at random people on the street. They had fun, yeah…

But Changmin’s dreams were crushed once again when Donghae introduced him to his best friend – Eunhyuk. His real name was Lee Hyukjae but he thought Eunhyuk sounded so much cooler. He got a loud snort from Changmin for that.
Anyway, after seeing the way Donghae looked at this “other friend of his”, Changmin realized he didn’t stand a chance.

One might think after all these escapades with no positive outcome, one might be crushed. Well, Changmin was stronger, smarter and better then that in every single way. He believed his wish was going to come true one day. And he wasn’t going to miss it.

Nevermind the Donghae fiasco, Changmin decided to take a closer look at the people close to him. That led to Youngbae, Daesung, Hongki and Sungmin heartbreaks.

For a while there he thought it was getting too hard to keep going this way without taking a break or as “the-all-mighty-Seungri” said, he’d just burn someday and miss the real thing with no strength to go on.

Seuingri was nice, young, cute and bright. He was constantly moving, jumping, dancing, just wondering around and never left Changmin alone. Seungri was the real thing. And one day a brilliant (and late) realization struck his mind.

Sometimes it’s supposed to happen like that. You can let your life resemble some cheesy romantic movie once in a while.

Anyways, without much thinking (first time in his life), Changmin approached Seungri one day and kissed him right there, in the middle of a fucking gym class.
All the girls were squeaking, all the boys were booing, but he was being kissed back and he didn’t care.

Seungri said he’s been waiting for this to happen for years. And Changmin said in was nice something finally paid off. They started dating and quickly became the most talked about couple in the entire school. And their school had some crazy ones.
Seungri and his sunbae of two years discovered there was a fansite dedicated to them and it was opened three hours after the kiss.

There wasn’t anything special about it. Really. When two of the most popular guys in school get together and put their relationship out for the public to observe closely (sometimes a little too closely), it’s only natural. At first they went to the roof for some quiet time alone (since it was close to Changmin’s graduation), but this place was discovered by some overly exited fangirl.
This relationship also forced both of them to come out to their families (basicly because the whole district was talking about them). Changmin was hoping they would’ve been more supportive, but the fact that they still accepted him as their son was enough. Seungri’s mom started setting him up on blind dates and this went on for a year. His father took the news rather well though, requested a meeting with Changmin and approved off “the boyfriend”.

Changmin got into one of the best universities and proceeded even further with this MinRi relationship, arranging a meeting with both families.
They bonded instantly and the two sons dating became a good thing now. Mr. Lee and Mr. Shim discussed a possible merging of the companies. It was almost like they were engaged or something. And it wasn’t all good.

Changmin was too happy to notice that pressure was creeping out on Seungri and they were slowly falling apart.
He realized something was wrong when he didn’t talk to Seungri for a week. And what a coinsidense, some students were thowing a party and Chagmin was invited (yeah, he was just this awesome).
So he took Seungri with him.

It was a typical party – beer, vodka, weed, perfect mess of drug- and alcohol-fueled boys and girls. Random people making out with strangers pretty much everywhere, loud music, laughter and sounds of cars pulling over. Well, it was a party. And some girl was dancing on the fucking table. Perfect.

The only adequate person left was the host and the owner of this once beautiful mansion, Jung Yunho. He was, by the way, walking towards slightly-buzzed Changmin, all smiles and perfect reaction to the falling vases. Changmin only noticed another man beside him when Yunho was about five drunken guys away from him.
“Hello, Changmin-ah, enjoying the party?” he said, calm and sarcastic as ever, “I wanted to introduce you to someone, Jaejoong-hyung noticed you and…”
“Shut up”, the third boy said, blushing and poking Yunho’s side with his pointy elbow.
“Yea-a-a-a-ah”, Changmin said, smile curving his lips.
“Anyways, Jaejoong-hyung, this is Shim Changmin. He’s a dork and he loves Star Wars, but he’s still awesome. Have fun, kids”.
Yunho left, Seungri was nowhere around, Changmin was a little bit drunk and Jaejoong was smiling too.
“Star Wars, huh? What about Star Trek then?” he was ridiculously gorgeous.
“No-o-o-o-o,” Changmin pronounced with obvious difficulty, “I don’t like Klingon and don’t really want to learn it”.
“You don’t have to, you know?” Jaejoong smiled.
“No, hyung. I do”, he laughed, “let me tell you why”.
As they got into it, all Changmin could think about was how screwed he was right now.

This is brilliant. I'm so late in reading this I already KNOW there's a sequel.

So I'm off to read it!

But first, "Just for the Night".
